Your Style. Your Focus. Your Portfolio.

This course doesn't prescribe a look or tell you which styles to practice. Students explore hair, skin, and nails - then go deep on whatever excites them most. The portfolio they build is genuinely their own work, their own aesthetic, their own creative direction.

Learn the Business, Not Just the Craft.

Knowing how to do the work is one thing. Knowing how to get clients, set prices, handle sanitation, and communicate professionally is what makes a teen beauty entrepreneur actually viable. This course covers both.

Hi, I'm Mikala. I hold a B.S. in Computer Science from MIT and an M.A. in Education (Learning Design and Technology) from Stanford University, and I've spent 15+ years working with students in classrooms, small groups, and 1:1. I've also worked with organizations like Google, Black Girls Code, and Teach For America. In this course you'll be building and creating, not just watching. Stay curious, take ownership, and give things a real try.

FAQ

  • Do I need professional equipment?

No. Basic starter supplies are enough to begin. As students find their focus area, they can invest in more specific tools that match their direction.

  • What does the portfolio look like?

Students document their practice work throughout the course with photos and reflections. By the end they have a collection of their best work across their chosen focus area - something they can show to potential clients or use to start a small business.

  • How do the informational interviews work?

Students find and reach out to a professional in their community — a hairstylist, nail tech, makeup artist, esthetician, or other beauty professional — and conduct a short interview. We provide guidance on how to find someone and what to ask.

  • Does this count for credit?

Yes. This course earns elective or CTE credit. It is transcript-eligible through Wild Oasis Learning, or students can self-report the credit to their own school or program.

  • Is this course for boys too?

Absolutely. Barbering, special effects makeup, face painting, and nail art have no gender. This course is for any student interested in the beauty and personal care industry.

  • How long does it take?

Most students complete the course in 2–3 months, but there's no deadline. Work at whatever pace fits your schedule.

  • I purchased this course on Teachers Pay Teachers — do I pay again?

No. Check your TPT purchase for a discount code to use at checkout on Wild Oasis.
