Fill a Sketchbook With Ideas

Artists learn by making lots of things. Throughout the course, students complete creativity challenges, brainstorming activities, design prompts, and sketches that help them develop confidence and generate original ideas.

Learn to See Like an Artist

Artists notice shapes, colors, patterns, textures, shadows, and details that other people overlook. Through observation exercises and studio projects, students train their eyes to see like artists and translate what they notice into artwork.

Create Art Inspired by Real Artists

Meet working artists and explore famous artistic styles while creating your own original work. Students experiment with collage, drawing, design, color, and mixed-media techniques inspired by artists from a variety of backgrounds and traditions.

  • What materials do I need?

You'll need a sketchbook, drawing pencils, erasers, colored pencils or markers, paint supplies if available, scissors, glue, and access to basic household art materials.

  • Is this course really self-paced?

Yes. There are no live sessions, no deadlines, and no scheduled class times. Your student works through lessons whenever it fits your schedule.

  • How does the mastery-based feedback work?

When your student submits an assignment, our instructors review it and either approve it or send specific feedback for revision. Students revise and resubmit until the work meets the standard. No moving on until it's solid.

Most students finish in 3–5 months, but there's no time limit. Some families move faster, some slower - the course works either way.

  • What do students get when they finish?

A certificate of completion. The course is transcript-eligible through Wild Oasis Learning, or students can self-report the credit to their own school or program.
